This two-episode novel tells the story of two protagonists, Ayesha and Shah Zain, both from broken families, who navigate through struggles and heartbreaks.
Ayesha’s mother eloped with someone else when Ayesha was a child, leaving her in the care of her paternal grandmother, uncle, and aunt. Her father moved abroad, remarried, and only provided financial support for Ayesha. Her greedy uncle and aunt neglected her, while her cousin Shayan often mocked her. Unexpectedly, Shayan falls in love with Ayesha and forces the family to arrange their engagement.
Shah Zain, on the other hand, is the son of a politician. Having witnessed his father abuse his mother, he despises his father. After his mother’s death, he lives in a hostel in Karachi for some time, where Shayan becomes his roommate. Shah Zain accidentally sees Ayesha’s picture on Shayan’s laptop and learns that she is Shayan’s fiancĂ©e. He then leaves for England.
Meanwhile, Shayan breaks the engagement with Ayesha after starting an affair with another girl at university. Ayesha decides to move to Karachi to continue her education and receives permission from her father to live in a hostel. Despite facing many challenges, Ayesha strives to find her mother and build her life.
Shah Zain, despite his wealth, has endured a troubled life due to his father’s actions. He meets Ayesha in England, but by that time, he is already carrying the emotional baggage of a past love.
The novel beautifully portrays their struggles, resilience, and how they cross paths to redefine their lives. For the intricate details of Shah Zain’s “one and a half love stories,” readers must explore the novel.
